Boston, January 17,2026 — Advenion Nutrition announces the publication of a new peer-reviewed scientific study evaluating Safforce+®, a standardized saffron (Crocus sativus L.) extract, in the international journal Nutrients (MDPI).
The study investigates the effects of a chemically characterized saffron extract standardized in safranal and crocins on behavioral, neuroendocrine, and metabolic parameters associated with aging. Using an aged animal model, the research demonstrates that Safforce+® produces dose-dependent improvements in anxiety-related behavior and recognition memory, while also modulating key neuropeptides involved in stress and emotional regulation.
At the mechanistic level, Safforce+® influenced hypothalamic and limbic pathways associated with emotional balance, including increased neuropeptide Y (NPY) and reduced corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) and hypocretin (HCRT) signaling. These effects were accompanied by reduced neuroinflammatory markers in the prefrontal cortex and activation of endocannabinoid and paracannabinoid pathways linked to mood regulation, sleep, and memory processes.
In addition to central nervous system effects, the study reported favorable modulation of hepatic lipid metabolism, supporting the concept that standardized saffron extracts may contribute to metabolic resilience during aging.
Importantly, the publication addresses longstanding challenges in the saffron market related to variability and adulteration by emphasizing chemical authentication, reproducible extraction, and bioactive standardization. Safforce+® was obtained through controlled aqueous or aqueous-partially alcoholic extraction and processed under GMP conditions in the European Union, ensuring consistency and traceability.
